David Spencer founded the Law Offices of David K. Spencer, P.C. after almost 15 years working in law and business. He started his legal career in the tax department of Sullivan & Cromwell and has since worked at Bank of America, HSBC and BNP Paribas as a front office banker at various desks including structured products, equity derivatives and tax equity placement. David received his J.D. (magna cum laude, Order of the Coif) and LL.M. (Tax Policy Fellowship recipient) from New York University School of Law in 1999 and 2000, respectively.

Topics include GAAP (and IFRS) treatment of DTAs (Deferred Tax Assets), DTLs (Deferred Tax Liabilities), tax reserves, APB 23 elections, direct vs indirect method for tax credits, the “simultaneous equations method”, tax accounting treatment of equity-based compensation and goodwill and tax attributes in purchase accounting applied in the context of a business combination.
One of Dave’s passions is boxing, specifically with opens in a new windowHaymakers for Hope, a cancer research benefit organization. HfH’s mission is to knockout cancer the only way we know how, by literally fighting for a cure. They give everyday men and women the opportunity to fight back against this terrible disease by training for, and competing in charity boxing events to raise money and awareness.
